Five reasons to move yourself (and your career) to the UK

Aussies are known for having itchy feet and a desire to explore the world, often for long periods of time. What better way to scratch that itch than moving overseas? You’ll be in a completely different environment with a new job, new friends and new culture for at least a year, possibly more – what more do you need?

So if you’re looking for a sea change and want to take your career to the next level, grab your sense of adventure and hop on over to the UK – we’ve got five excellent reasons why!

The language is the same

Seems pretty obvious, right? However, it’s something that often gets overlooked when people start thinking about moving overseas. You’re going to face far fewer issues working in the UK than many other countries due to the lack of a language barrier. It means you can hit the ground running, understand exactly what your clients and co-workers want from you and then impress them with your outstanding work.

Plus, it’s so much easier to connect with your new colleagues when you’re not struggling to communicate. On the downside, there’ll be none of those funny mishaps that occur when you’re trying to understand a new language – they always make the best stories…

The agency life is strong

If you want to work at an agency, we have good news for you. There are so many creative and marketing agencies in the UK, you’ll be spoiled for choice as to which ones to apply for. Even better, some agencies have a global presence, so they work with top notch brands, manage international campaigns and have the capacity to win big come awards season – if you snag a role at one of agencies, they can take your career places. So whether you want to work for a smaller, boutique agency or want to be part of something bigger, the opportunities are there.

The cost of living is similar to Australia

Apart from London that is. If you plan to live and work in London, prepare yourself. You’re going to pay more than you’ve ever paid in Australia for rent, bills, groceries and a night out. Also, if you’ve been living by yourself for a while, accept the fact that you’re going to have to join a share house. Only the people on TV and in the movies can afford to live in London by themselves. In other cities around the UK, life is cheaper and more on par with Australia, so it’s not a bad idea to consider opportunities outside of old London town.

It’s your gateway to Europe

Jump on a plane and in just a few hours, you’re in a completely different country, rather than a different state. The European holiday that Aussies drool over on Instagram and save up for months for, is at your fingertips – it’s so much easier to achieve when it’s on your doorstep and you don’t have to pay thousands of dollars in flights. Go on, take that holiday to Spain, Greece or Croatia (or all three!) and make your mates back home jealous.
